Bridge weight restrictions

Updated: May 5, 2023

Was puzzled by the two diamond roadsigns on Hibel Road bridge. They are ex-LNWR weak bridge warnings: but why both on the same side, and how did they last until 1960?

A pic from the platform shows the signs are fixed to the outside of the bridge. So they survived because on railway land, and are both on the LNWR side of the bridge (the other side being North Staffs).

As luck has it, I have a pair of the same in the spares box.

Both photos from Jeuna, Railways of Macclesfield, credited to British Railways.
